Lyric Arts announces 2011-12 season line-up

Lyric Arts continues to spread its stage magic with an all new 2011-12 season of shows aimed at satisfying a variety of theater palates.

Musicals, mystery, comedies and romance are among this year’s line-up in the theater’s 16th season.
“We have some familiar favorites, but we also have shows that might be new to people,” said Laura Tahja-Johnson, managing director of Lyric Arts. “Each show has been chosen for a reason. They are all really fantastic.”
Lyric Arts Main Street Stage’s 2011-12 roster includes:
“Leading Ladies,” directed by Bob Neu, Sept. 9-25; “Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure,” director to be determined, Oct. 14-30; “White Christmas,” directed by Rebecca Rizzio, Nov. 18-Dec. 18; “A Spell of Cold Weather,” a Mainly for Kids production, directed by Laura Bidgood, Dec. 3-10; “Dixie Swim Club,” director Carrie Steinbach, Jan. 13-29, 2012; “Oklahoma!” directed by Dan Peterson, Feb. 17-March 18, 2012; “Over the Tavern,” directed by Barb Hynes-Tomczyk, April 13-29, 2012; “Pinkalicious,” a Mainly for Kids production, directed by Laura Bidgood, April 21-29, “Heaven Can Wait,” director to be determined, June 1-16, 2012; and “Cabaret,” directed by Matt McNabb, July 13-Aug. 15, 2012.
Season subscription sales start June 28, while single tickets go on sale July 15.
Opening night galas return for all regular shows. For a small fee, guests can enjoy drinks and appetizers before the show and dessert afterwards with the cast and crew.
Lyric Arts is a nonprofit organization that presents theater for the community by the community. It provides access to theater for hundreds of volunteers, artists and tens of thousands of audience members annually.
The theater, located at 420 E. Main St. in Anoka, presents an average of 10 to 12 productions per season. Lyric Arts also hosts acoustical concerts and provides theater workshops, matinees for school children, touring performances and educational outreach programs.
