The driver of a vehicle that allegedly led a Coon Rapids Police officer on a pursuit into Minneapolis has been charged with a felony in Anoka County District Court.
Leopoldo Silguero Jr., 31, 15421 Round Lake Blvd., Andover, was arraigned in court July 8 on a felony charge of fleeing police in a motor vehicle as well as gross misdemeanor DWI and misdemeanor fleeing police – no vehicle – counts.
The early morning hours of July 8, Coon Rapids Police Officer Matt Wilberg tried to initiate a traffic stop after observing a car swerve multiple times over the fog and center lines while traveling eastbound on Highway 10 and Highway 47, according to the complaint.
Instead of stopping, the driver allegedly exited Highway 10 on to westbound TH 610, crossed the river, then went south on Highway 252 with Wilberg in steady pursuit and the squad car’s emergency lights and siren activated.
Several law enforcement agencies joined in the pursuit and in the area of Lowry Avenue and I-94, spike strips were deployed in an effort to stop the car, but the driver swerved to avoid them.
However, as the vehicle approached the Broadway exit, an officer performed a pit maneuver, spinning the car on to the grass median and forcing it to stop.
But the driver allegedly ran from the vehicle, jumped a fence and headed toward the highway. He was quickly apprehended by two members of the Minnesota State Patrol.
The driver, identified as Silguero, allegedly had bloodshot and watery eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.
He refused to take a preliminary breath test, then after being read the implied consent advisory, he refused to submit to a blood or urine test (the reason for the second-degree DWI charge), according to the complaint.
Court records show that Silguero has a prior DWI implied consent revocation out of Anoka County from May 8 this year.
