Many young girls have served as the ambassadors to East Bethel over the 32-year history of the East Bethel Royalty program. A few new girls will join these diplomatic ranks after a ceremony tomorrow afternoon (Saturday, July 16) at the East Bethel Ice Arena.

The pageant will once again be at the East Bethel Ice Arena, but it will start earlier than normal. The pageant begins at 1:30 p.m.
Also new this year is the junior princess category for girls ages 11 to 13 as of July 1. The young women crowned queen and princess must still be between 16 and 21 years old, and Little Miss candidates must be between six and eight years old.
Over this past year, the 2010-2011 East Bethel Royalty have traveled over 2,500 miles to attend 70 events, according to Erika Rucks, a volunteer in charge of recruitment and promotions.
Some of the things that Abby Johnson, Erica Sundem Mallak, Abby Mau and Katie Mueller did this past year included serving food at Mary’s Place in Minneapolis, volunteering at the Pageants of Hope for physically and developmentally delayed girls, Nite to Unite appearances in East Bethel, an appearance at the Cedar Creek Community School carnival and an appearance at East Bethel Community School’s pizza night.
Mueller will be representing East Bethel at the Minneapolis Aquatennial Queen of Lakes Program. People can meet Mueller and the 42 other candidates Wednesday, July 20 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Minneapolis City Center atrium. She will also be in the torchlight parade, which runs from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. July 20. The coronation ceremony is Friday, July 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Ted Mann Concert Hall on the University of Minnesota campus.
Because of all the time they put in, the non-profit organization distributes college scholarships to the queen and princess and a savings bond to the Little Miss winners.
