Dan Perry and Ice Cream will bring its larger than life sound and family-friendly show to Anoka on Sunday.
The group will perform July 31 at 7 p.m. in the Bicentennial Band Shell at George Green Park, 1498 Sixth Ave. S., as part of Anoka’s annual Concerts in the Park series.
Dan Perry and Ice Cream formed some five years ago and performs weekly throughout the summer at area festivals and concert series.
The group includes Perry, vocals, acoustic and electric guitar; Jim Allen, bass guitar and vocals; Anne Atchison, piano; Christine Brough, flute and saxophone; Joe Brough, keys, hats and vocals; Judy Buerkle, guitar, percussion and vocals; Julie Conzemius, vocals; Jennifer Kehler, vocals; Julie Keller, vocals; Rose Kubiatowicz, mandolin; Joanne Pauley, vocals; Laurie Peterman, vocals; and Joe Scanlan, drums.
The musicians, who generally come from St. Paul and Shoreview, according to Perry, play ‘60s and ‘70s oldies, rock, blues, jazz, pop, country and originals.
Perry said having such a large group of musicians “allows us to have a pretty unique sound.”
That includes big vocals and a large variety of music.
“We all love music,” Perry said.
“This is really such a fun and amazing band,” Kubiatowicz said. “Our audiences – from kids to seniors – have a great time. So do we.”
This is Dan Perry and Ice Cream’s second time performing as part of Anoka’s summer concert series.
Perry recalls the performance as one of the group’s best.
“It was kind of low key,” he said. “The setting was real relaxing.”
“As we played the audience kept getting bigger because the neighbors heard our music and several said they put down whatever they were doing to come and listen,” Kubiatowicz said about the group’s 2010 Anoka performance.
