Semi crashes through ice, Anoka driver behind wheel

An Anoka man was behind the wheel of a semi truck that crashed through the ice and into a pond near Monticello on Friday morning.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the semi hauling freight for Target was east bound on Interstate 94 when it crossed the median into the west bound lane. It then crashed through the ice and into a pond, settling in about 7 feet of water. The accident happened at 6:19 a.m.

The driver, John Nettifee, 34, of Anoka was able to get out of the truck’s cab and cross the ice to safety. Netifee was not seriously injured, according to the State Patrol.
