A woman was killed while walking across Highway 10 on Monday evening.

Police were dispatched to the intersection of Highway 10 and Thurston Avenue around 6:30 p.m. where there was a report of an east bound passenger truck hitting a pedestrian.

The 52-year-old woman was found dead at the scene, according to Capt. Scott Nolan of the Anoka Police Department.

The name of the victim has not yet been released, but Nolan did confirm she lived in the area, south of Highway 10.

Nolan said the driver of the truck is cooperating with the investigation and there is no reason to suspect drug or alcohol use as a factor.

At this point, police weren’t willing to speculate on what caused the woman to unsafely try to cross the busy highway. Although Nolan did say there were several witnesses to the incident, and police are working to confirm the information being gathered.

The incident remains under investigation by both the Anoka Police Department and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
