Hockey: Feb. 2 recap

Andover’s Cal Rak collected a hat trick as the team picked up yet another conference win Thursday night against Robbinsdale Armstrong 6-3.

Tomberlin set up Rak for both first-period goals before he scored 1:38 into the second period. Davis Tollette set up captain Tyler Jokinen for a late goal to make it 6-3. Huskies goalie Chase Perry was busy all night as he posted 32 saves for the win. The Falcons out shot Andover 35-28.

A four-goal third period propelled Blaine to a 5-0 shutout win over Osseo in a Northwest Suburban Conference victory Feb. 2.

Joey Vegel scored twice in the third period as 11 different players factored in the scoring. Norling had two assists and goalie Nick Malvin posted 15 saves for the shutout win.

Coon Rapids
The Cardinals continued to struggle Thursday night as Elk River handed the Northwest Suburban Conference’s bottom team in the standings a 10-0 loss at the Coon Rapids Ice Center.

The Elks scored six times in the first period and added four goals in the third period as the out shot the Cardinals 53-4. Coon Rapids posted two shots on net in the first period and third period while they failed to put a shot on net in the second period.

Girls Hockey
St. Francis/North Branch
The Saints came up short against Totino-Grace 4-1 in a North Suburban Conference game in East Bethel for its fourth straight loss (3-22) Feb. 2.

St. Francis’ Maddi Kaehler scored 3:55 into the game to give the Saints the early lead before the Eagles came back with four unanswered goals.
