The Minnesota State Highway Patrol is investigating an accident involving one of their own that sent a Ramsey police officer to the hospital.

According to the State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske, Ramsey Police Officer Thomas Lueck, 45, was driving south on Highway 47 near 156th Lane Feb. 7 when he pulled into the right-turn lane, turned on his emergency lights and did a U-turn to pursue a vehicle that had committed a traffic offense just before 5 p.m.

Trooper Philip Jergenson, 32, who was traveling south behind Lueck’s squad car, struck the Ramsey squad on the driver’s side when Lueck turned in front of him.

Both officers received minor injuries and the squads had moderate damage, Roeske said.

Lueck was taken to Mercy Hospital, treated for his injuries and later released.
