A fatal accident occurred on Lexington Avenue near 153rd Avenue in Ham Lake this morning, according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.

Noreen Callahan

Norene Callahan, 54, of Shoreview, was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Callahan was a second grade teacher at Isanti Primary School. Cambridge-Isanti Superintendent Bruce Novak confirmed the news that Callahan was the person killed in the Ham Lake accident.

According to the sheriff’s office, Callahan was driving northbound on Lexington Avenue around 7 a.m. this morning when she apparently lose control of her Honda sedan because of the slick road. The sheriff’s office said her vehicle slid into the southbound lane where it was struck by a full-size Chevy pickup truck driven by a 33-year-old Hugo man.

Cmdr. Paul Sommer of the sheriff’s office said the driver of the pick-up truck was not injured.

Impaired driving does not appear to be a factor in this crash.

Lexington Avenue was closed in both directions for accident reconstruction until 11 a.m., according to Sommer. The Minnesota State Patrol and the Anoka County Medical Examiner’s Office are assisting the sheriff’s office in this investigation.
