A late afternoon fire charred 40 to 50 acres of wetlands in Ramsey today (Monday, Feb. 20).

It took approximately two hours for fire crews to put out a late afternoon fire that burned 40-50 acres of Ramsey wetland.

Ramsey, Andover, Oak Grove and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources fire crews were called out just before 1:30 p.m. to battle a fire along 167th Avenue and east of Yttrium Street.

“With it being a windy day, the fire took off pretty quickly,” said Ramsey Fire Chief Dean Kapler.

It took the fire crews about two hours to knock the fire down, he said.

While there were some anxious home owners, no property was immediate danger, Kapler said.
