Due to the unseasonably warm weather, the Bunker Hills compost site has opened for the season two weeks early. This early opening only impacts the Bunker Hills compost site. It is located at 13285 Hanson Blvd. in Coon Rapids.
The Rice Creek Chain of Lakes compost site, located at 7701 Main St. in Lino Lakes, will open for the season April 1 as scheduled.
There is a $4 per vehicle fee for up to four cubic yards of yard waste (for example, leaves, grass clippings, garden waste, weeds, pumpkins, pine cones). There is an additional 50 cents per cubic yard charge for yard waste in excess of four yards. (One yard equals about eight lawn bags.)
Proof of residency is required to use the site. All yard waste must be debagged. Residents are asked to unload yard waste and take bags and containers with them. Keep leaves and grass separate from tree waste since the fees are assessed separately. Brush, evergreen boughs, logs and stumps are charged by the cubic yard depending on the size and amount of the material. Tree waste may be loose or bundled. The more compact the load, the lower the fee.
The Bunker Hills compost site is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Contact the site at 763-767-7964.
