Representatives from 13 of the organizations that received grants were on hand to accept their grant.

Each year the Coon Rapids club distributes the proceeds of its fund-raising efforts to community groups that enhance the quality of life in the Coon Rapids area.

This year the Rotary club handed out $13,000 to 15 organizations.

Among the groups receiving checks were Alexandra House, Anoka Technical College Foundation, Anoka-Ramsey Community College Foundation, Coon Rapids Community Scholarship Association, Family Promise of Anoka County, Free2B! Inc., Coon Rapids Crime Prevention Association, Coon Rapids High School Senior All-Night Party, Mediation Services for Anoka County, Mercy and Unity Hospitals Foundation, Lyric Arts, Stepping Stone Emergency Housing and Emma B. Howe YMCA.

Much of the money comes from the club’s annual wine tasting event held each year in October.

Along with the community grant program, the club participates in the Anoka-Hennepin District 11 third-grade dictionary project led by the Anoka Rotary Club.

The club also sponsors an international student exchange program, contributes to Rotary International’s polio eradication project, holds an Anoka-Hennepin district-wide elementary school reading contest and puts on a spaghetti dinner to support Coon Rapids High School student activities.

The club meets Mondays at 12:15 p.m. at the Harvest Grill located at Bunker Hills Golf Course. Visitors are always welcome to attend the lunch meeting.
