Registration is now open for the 12th annual Bill Gallagher Memorial 5K Fun Run and Walk for Literacy, Saturday, April 21 at Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. The start time for participants in wheelchairs and pre-K children is 8:30 a.m.. The 5K run and walk both begin at 9 a.m.
Gallagher, a former principal, was a literacy advocate.
The event is hosted by the Anoka-Hennepin Educational Foundation (AHEF). Event sponsors include Allina Health, Horace Mann, Lanigan & Kolb, United Educators Credit Union and Anoka Rotary Club.
Participants will designate a school and every dollar they earn will go to that school’s media center.
The elementary school with the highest per capita participation will win $1,000.
The highest per capita participation for middle and high schools will each win $500.
Every child that participates in the event will receive a free book.
Participating students will be eligible for drawings for a boy’s bicycle and girl’s bicycle, courtesy of Horace Mann.
“The event is special because all the money raised goes to Anoka-Hennepin school media centers in proportion to the number of participants from that school,” said Chuck Day, an AHEF Board member who chairs the event.
“There were hundreds of participants in 2011, from babies in strollers to grandparents, joining in the fun. We look forward to even more fun at the 2012 event.”
To receive a race T-shirt, registrations must be received by April 11.
Registration is $22 per adult and $8 per student, with a household cap of $49. Registration forms are available at the AHEF office in the Educational Service Center, 11299 Hanson Blvd. N.W., Coon Rapids, every school or online at www.anoka.k12.mn.us/ahef.
