Fluorescent lamp recycling at ACE

The Coon Rapids Ace Hardware store now offers a fluorescent lamp recycling program.

Ace Hardware has joined forces with Mercury Technologies of Minnesota, Inc. to provide CFL recycling to area residents and small businesses.

The store will be able to accept CFLs at no charge for all Xcel Energy customers. State law requires that spent fluorescent lamps be recycled.

“Regardless of the legal requirements surrounding fluorescent lamp disposal, the real issue is caring for the environment,” said Kelly Gribauval-Hite, chief executive officer of Mercury Technologies of Minnesota, Inc.

“Properly recycled, fluorescent lamps are environmentally friendly due to using far less energy, lasting many times longer and costing less to operate than standard incandescent lamps.”

Area residents and businesses can bring their spent lamps to Ace Hardware, 9680 Foley Blvd. N.W., Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
