Historical society to honor volunteers at April 21 event

National Volunteer Week is a time set aside for most agencies to celebrate leaders in the field of service.

The Anoka County Historical Society will honor its volunteers with a program and refreshments April 21, 1 to 3 p.m., at the History Center, 2135 Third Ave. N. in Anoka.

More than 120 volunteers contributed 5,165 hours of service to the historical society.

These volunteers serve on the board of directors, conduct Ghost of Anoka walking tours, do research, scan photos, work at the home and garden show, volunteer for parades, help out at community events, staff the heritage house at the Anoka County Fair and much more.

In addition, for the first time the society will be honoring 36 volunteers, nearly 30 percent, who have worked with the history center for over 10 years.

Staff will provide a pot luck lunch Tuesday, April 17 at noon for these volunteers.

The Anoka County Historical Society, organized in 1934, is headquartered in the Anoka County History Center and Library at 2135 Third Ave. N. in Anoka.
