Four felony charges filed against a St. Francis man in Anoka County District Court for allegedly sexually assaulting a girl, now 10 years old, over a period of years, have been dismissed by the Anoka County Attorney’s Office.
Steven David Maxey, 46, had been scheduled to go on trial March 26 on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
But in court papers filed March 22, Jennifer Verdego, assistant Anoka County Attorney, dismissed the charges “without prejudice in the interest of justice.”
According to Verdego, additional investigation following the filing of the case has produced information which prevents the state from proving the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
St. Francis Police Department responded to a residence the night of June 8, 2011 where a 10-year-old girl reported being sexually abused by a man she identified as Maxey, according to the complaint.
She alleged the abuse had taken place for several years, most recently the afternoon of June 8, 2011.
