Anoka Middle School for the Arts Theater Department presents a show that’s got groove, it’s got meaning.
The popular “Grease” with head greaser Danny Zuko and goody girl Sandy Dumbrowski jazzes up the stage with cast members singing and dancing their way into 1950s coolness. Personified. It’s the old boy meets girl, boy splits from girl, you figure out the rest. But as in all of director Jefferson Fietek’s productions, there’s a twist (double entendre intended).
“This production is unique because of its showcasing such young performers doing a show traditionally done by high schools,” Fietek said. “It is a traditional presentation of the beloved musical ‘Grease’ packed full of singing, dancing and over-the-top characters.”
Hear hip-shaking songs like “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin’,” “Hand Jive” and “We Go Together.”
Sixty-five students in grades six through eight make up the cast and crew.
“You will get to see top-notch singers and dancers who will blow your socks off,” Fietek said.
Book, music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Matt Kari designed the sets. Benjamin Lacina is vocal director and Carla Bode is choreographer. Stirling Callander is lighting designer.
