Andover man faces two felony charges

A 27-year-old Andover man is facing two felony assault charges filed by the Anoka County Attorney’s Office.

Benjamin Richard Peters was arraigned in Anoka County District Court April 16 on third-degree assault and domestic assault charges, which was elevated to felony level because of prior domestic-related convictions.

According to the criminal complaint, law enforcement at approximately 10 a.m. April 14 were called to a domestic situation on the 16800 block of Argon Street in Andover.

When deputies arrived, Peters was allegedly very angry and swearing about a female. Police drove to a home down the block and noticed that this adult woman had a large amount of blood on her shirt, a black and blue swollen left eye and a bloody nose.

She first alleged that she fell while at Peters’ house, but she allegedly told paramedics that Peters had beaten her at least five times in the last month and the injury to her eye was caused by Peters hitting her once in the eye with a closed fist.

Hospital staff later found that she had a broken bone in her eye area.

Peters has previously been convicted twice of violating an order for protection – in November 2005 in Anoka County District Court and in Hennepin County District Court in February 2007, according to the complaint.
