Help is needed to restore the M41 Light Tank displayed adjacent to the Veterans Memorial at Bunker Hills Regional Park in Coon Rapids.
The Anoka County Veteran Services Office and the Parks and Recreation Department are working together to raise the estimated $13,000 needed to repaint and restore the tank plus install appropriate signage.
The M41 was placed into service in 1953 and saw action in both the Korean and Vietnam wars.
It has been part of the Veterans Memorial at Bunker Hills Regional Park since 1965.
“The M41 Tank represents an important period in our American history,” said Anoka County Commissioner Jim Kordiak, chairperson of the county’s Parks and Recreation Committee.
“This restoration effort is needed to properly acknowledge the soldiers who were assigned to the M41 and indeed, all the men and women of the armed services who have served.”
