Blaine city manager gets salary increase

Blaine City Manager Clark Arneson has received a 3 percent salary increase.

Councilmembers held a closed meeting April 19 to discuss his job performance.

The workshop review session lasted about an hour. Terry Dussault, Blaine’s director of human resources, said Arneson’s new gross annual salary is $147,628.

Under Minnesota’s Open Meeting Law, city councils, school boards and similar entities can meet privately to discuss the job performance of an employee.

However, the same law requires the entity in question to summarize the conclusions of the employee evaluation at the next open meeting that’s scheduled.

Mayor Tom Ryan provided the Minnesota Open Meeting Law summary at the end of the council’s regular meeting the same night.

Ryan said Arneson’s 3 percent salary increase would be retroactive to Jan. 1. Arneson’s previous salary was $143,328.

Dussault said Arneson also receives a $3,600 car allowance.

Arneson was hired Feb. 25, 2008. He previously served as Bloomington’s assistant city manager and government positions in Chaska, Staples and Bemidji.
