Spring Lake Park’s lady Panthers girls’ lacrosse team beat Columbia Heights in a big way Tuesday, trouncing the Hylanders 16-7 on the Hylanders’ home turf.

“Control of the draw and the ball was the major reason for our victory,” said coach Chris Clark. “On offense, the girls attacked the net and executed cuts very well.”

That Panther attack had SLP’s Miranda Mulvihill and Allie Kowalzek leading the Panthers’ scoring drive, each with four goals.

Meanwhile, Deanna Edwards scored two while Maggie Pyatt, Madisen Kelly, Emily Wirtz, Megan Peterson, Karissa Thomson and Riley Packard-Rau each scored one.

“The Heights offense also attacked the net well, but our defense did a good job of stepping up and double-teaming, thereby limiting the number of quality shots they got off,” said Clark.

Panther goalie Hailey Munsterman also made several great saves to keep Columbia Heights from making a comeback, Clark said.

A pair of Columbia Heights players, Bridget Ebert and Shaena Swanson, did, in fact, each score three goals, while teammate Jenessa Mohn scored one for the Hylanders’ seven goals for the game.

The Panthers won their season opener back on April 11, beating Andover 10-9, but then lost the next six in a row before arriving in Columbia Heights Tuesday evening.

“With four games left, we hope to take those successes forward and continue to improve on the other areas of our game,” Clark said.

Next up, Spring Lake Park girls’ lacrosse takes the field at Robbinsdale Cooper for a 5 p.m. kick off this afternoon (May 3).
