If you’ve ever had a deep yearning to visit New York City to see such Broadway shows as “Wicked,” “Phantom” or “Jersey Boys,” this might be a quicker and closer solution.

Audience members can expect pure fun for the evening, said director Rebecca Rizzio.

“It’s comedy. It’s fun. It’s light. It will be all the iconic moments from Broadway put on Lyric Arts stage,” she said.

Rizzio most recently directed “White Christmas” at Lyric Arts this past holiday season.

Cabaret spotlights some of the most beloved show tunes. Popular performers from past productions will return to entertain for two nights only – May 11 and 12. Anthony R. Johnson will emcee the shows.

Songs from “Mama Mia,” “Lion King” and “Rent” are a few more examples of blockbuster musicals featured in the cabaret.

“If people love Broadway musicals, whatever they love about musicals, they’ll hear that night,” Rizzio said.

Kristin Gates is music director. Jon Stiff is choreographer.

In addition to hearing top-notch talent, peruse a boutique to purchase unusual items, play a game or bid on the silent auction.

Among items up for bid this year are a $100 gift certificate for Gould’s Diamonds & Jewelry, tickets to the Illusion, Guthrie, Park Square and Jungle theaters and more.

Another treasure is a CD autographed by Adam Pascal, playing the lead in the Broadway musical “Memphis.” Pascal originated the role of Roger in the Broadway musical “Rent.”

More auction items are wine baskets, artwork, jewelry and weekend getaways.

The cabaret is the only annual fund-raiser for the non-profit Lyric Arts theater.

Tickets to the fund-raiser include bottomless beverages, appetizers and desserts from Truffles and Tortes.

Lyric Arts Cabaret, May 11 and 12, doors open at 6 p.m. to peruse silent auction items. Show is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets from $50 to $60. The theater is at 420 E. Main St., Anoka. For more information visit www.lyricarts.org or call 763-422-1838.
