Pull tab booth robbery attempt fails in Coon Rapids

A robbery attempt at the Coon Rapids National Little League pull tab operation at Cityside Bar and Grill, Coon Rapids, failed late Tuesday afternoon.

A person matching the description of the suspect and the car in which he got away had robbed a pull tab in Fridley earlier in the afternoon, according to the Coon Rapids Police report.

About 4:30 p.m., a man approached the little league organization’s employee in the pull tab booth at Cityside to ask her the time and then walked away when she gave it to him.

A couple of minutes later, the man returned, handed the pull tab operator a note and a plastic sandwich bag and demanded she put all the money from the pull tabs in it; if she did she would not get hurt.

The woman told the man no way, ran out the side door of the pull tab booth and yelled for police to be called because she was being robbed.

According to the police report, the man fled through the doors of the restaurant leading to the Country Suites Hotel and then outside.

The woman followed and provided police with a description of the suspect and the car in which he drove off – a new silver Chrysler with a yellow temporary tag on the upper left corner of the rear window.

The suspect was described as a white male, mid-40s with shoulder-length hair and a goatee.

He was wearing a light colored stocking cap, jean jacket with leather sleeves and blue jeans.

No weapon was threatened or seen, according to the police report.
