Coon Rapids native and country musician Rockie Lynne visited Shortstop Bar and Grill, Coon Rapids, last week to thank owners Ray and Tonya McManus for their donation to the Coon Rapids Arts Commission’s annual summer concert series.
Ray McManus is sponsoring eight of the nine concerts planned as part of the Thursday Nites LIVE! at the Dam concert series.
Lynne said he wanted to thank McManus for the donation, especially during this time of budget cuts.
“I’m proud to be part of the concert series and thank you for sponsoring it,” Lynne said April 25.
McManus said he decided to sponsor the concerts because “it was the right thing to do.”
“We’re from here and we make our living here,” he said. “This neighborhood has been really good to us.”
McManus urged other local businesses to give back to the community as well.
“A little bit of help makes a big difference,” he said. “Pay it forward.”
McManus describes the concert series, which opens June 7, as “good, family fun.”
The concerts are free and begin at 7 p.m. and are held at Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park picnic/performance pavilion, 9750 Egret Blvd., rain or shine.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. Food is available for purchase.
During the concerts, park admission fees are waived.
The concerts include:
• June 7, Rockin’ Hollywoods
• June 14, Dan Perry and Ice Cream
• June 21, Rockie Lynne
