Bengal boys, girls take home second place team trophies in section True Team track meet

With nine first-place finishes in the May 10 section 5AAA True Team Track and Field Championships, Blaine boys and girls took home second place team trophies.

Finishing just 4.5 points behind first-place White Bear Lake, the Bengal boys totalled 1,031 points for the contest, while the Bengal girls finished with 936 points, 132 points behind the first-place Forest Lake team.

St. Francis girls finished eighth in the section meet with 609 points. St. Francis boys also finished eighth, totalling 534.5 points for the contest.

 

Individuals

St. Francis’ Maggie Ewen won both the shot put and the discus throw, with distances of 47-05.5 and 164-06, respectively.

For Blaine, Alex Williams took home a first-place medal when she crossed the 100 meter hurdles finish line in 16.23. She later finished second in the 300 meter hurdles, with a time of 47.54.

Lady Bengals Taylor Morgan and Courtney Purcell finished neck-and-neck in the girls 100 meter dash, Morgan breaking the tape in 12.45 with Purcell finishing in 12.71.

Later Purcell would win the girls 200 meter dash with a time of 25.97.

The Blaine girls’ 4×200 meter relay team took first place with a time of 1:43.52. Later the 4×100 meter relay team was first to cross the finish line in 50.42.

The lady Bengals crossed the line one, two, three in the 400 meter dash, with first place Kiersten Falck finishing in 1:01.37, second place Hanna Stratton finishing in 1:01.90 and third place Ashley Pafko finishing in 1:02.40.

In high jump action, Blaine’s Kirsten Olsen cleared 5-00.00 for first place.

In boys action, the Bengals’ 4×800 meter relay team finished third with a time of 8:24.09.

Blaine boys took second in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:32.47.

In the 4×100 meter relay, Bengal boys finished third with a time 44.04.

Blaine’s Dajuan Copeland took first place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.25. Later, Copeland finished third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 41.32.

The Bengals’ Ayuk Tambe won the 100 meter dash in 10.98 seconds. He also finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.40.

In the 400 meter dash, Blaine’s Patrick Mendin took second place with a time of 50.87. He would later finish sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.59.

In boys’ high jump, Blaine’s Kunle Ayinde finished tied for second with a leap of 6-00.00.

In boys’ pole vault, Bengal Steven Zingsheim finished third with 13-00.00.

Blaine’s Josh Limberg won bronze in the boys’ triple jump, clearing a distance of 41-03.25.

Blaine’s Chris McLeod finished third in shot put, throwing 49-08.50. Later he took home third in discus throw with a distance of 146-05.
