A series of post-construction open houses start this weekend at 11635 Xavis St. N.W., the city of Coon Rapids’ fifth Home for Generations remodeling project.
There will be four open houses – Saturday, May 12, Sunday, May 13, Sunday, May 20 and Sunday, June 3, all from noon to 3 p.m.
At the same time the remodeled house has been put on the market by Mike Hunstad of Counselor Realty, the realtor hired by the Coon Rapids Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) to sell the property.
The HRA launched the Home for Generations program in 2009 to purchase vacant/foreclosed older homes in the city, remodel them and then sell them to recover the HRA’s purchase and remodeling costs, not to turn a profit.
The other four homes that have been purchased and remodeled have been sold.
In addition, through the program the HRA wants to give residents living in older homes in the city ideas for remodeling their own homes, which is why pre-construction, mid-construction and post-construction open houses have take place.
Contractor Darrell Olson of Legacy Homes was hired by the HRA to do the remodeling project at the Xavis Street residence.
The 1960 rambler was purchased by the HRA for $86,000 last year. The remodeling budget was $40,000.
