Kids wet their lines at Coon Rapids event

The annual kids’ fishing clinic at the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park Saturday morning drew the usual large crowds even though the weather was cool and cloudy.

The Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department and Cenaiko Productions hosted the event on Cenaiko Lake in the area of the performance pavilion.

Children ages five and up learned about lure selection, boat and water safety, fish identification, how to tie a knot and fishing ethics.

They also had the opportunity to receive some hands-on instruction on spinning and spin casting.

Children were also given a kit of fishing equipment and other goodies.

The Coon Rapids Lions Club provided free food, including hot dogs, and beverages.

Event sponsors and donors included Fishing Pro-Mo’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Culver’s of Coon Rapids, Rapid Sport Marine, Coon Rapids Kiwanis Club, Coon Rapids VFW, Old Dutch Foods, Blaine State Bank, Costco, Sysco Minnesota and Classic Bowl.
