Sleeping truck driver escapes Coon Rapids fire

A sleeping truck driver escaped unhurt from his burning truck while it was parked at a Coon Rapids business early May 2.

The driver, 34, was asleep in the sleeper of the semi-truck shortly after 2 a.m. May 2 at JG Global Logistics, 13385 Xeon St. N.W., when he was awakened by a loading dock employee who told him the truck was on fire.

According to the Coon Rapids Fire Department run report, firefighters arrived to find a semi-truck attached to its full loaded trailer fully involved by fire.

The semi-truck and trailer were backed up to a loading dock with trailers on both sides.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire before the trailer was impacted, having it under control within four minutes of arrival at the scene, the run report states.

There was light smoke inside the trailer and the contents were emptied to make sure the fire had not spread; it hadn’t.

But the cab was completely destroyed, according to the fire department run report.

Bystanders had failed to extinguish the fire before firefighters arrived.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.

Property and contents losses are estimated at $200,000
