Highway 47 (Ferry Street) will be closed at the railroad crossing in Anoka starting Monday, May 21 at 10 a.m.
The road will stay closed until Friday at 5 a.m. while crews work to construct a center median, curbing and signage – all needed to establish a quiet zone for trains in the city of Anoka, according to Public Services Director Greg Lee.
The closure is located in the area just south of Alter Recycling. Traffic will be detoured to Seventh Avenue while Highway 47 is closed.
With the addition of specific safety measures, the quiet zone will mean a train’s engineer is not required to whistle at all intersections.
As part of the establishment of a quiet zone, construction will also be taking place at the Fourth Avenue railroad crossing next to Anoka’s Northstar Rail Station. Although, this crossing will not be closed while work is being done.
