Model airplanes will fly through the skies for the enjoyment of the public tomorrow (Saturday, May 19) in East Bethel.
The Anoka County Radio Control (ACRC) club is hosting a spring fly-in May 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its home field on the east side of Highway 65 and just north of Viking Boulevard in East Bethel. The field is behind the Central Wood Processing business. Parking is available on the site.
The event is called the fly-in because it signifies the beginning of the club’s season. The fly-out event at the end of the season is in early October, according to event coordinator Marc Davis of Chisago City. The club’s flying schedule can be found at www.anoka-rc.com.
The fly-in is the event where all club members are encouraged to come and demonstrate their flying techniques for the public. There will be many styles of model aircraft on display including warbirds, aerobatic, combat and helicopters.
There is no admission charge if you just want to watch the planes. There is a cost of $5 per person for lunch, which includes a pig roast, baked beans and other sides.
