St. Francis’ softball Saints came marching in to their home field for the section 7AAA quarterfinal contest May 25.
Like a hitting machine – and with pitching ace Deb Evans keeping the Wildcats at bay – the Saints shut out Chisago Lakes 10-0.
“We take it one inning, one game at a time. The girls are looking good today,” one of the assistant coaches said in the early innings of the rain-delayed game. (The original schedule had the Saints on the field May 24, but inclement weather postponed the game to May 25.)
Turns out that coach knew exactly what she was seeing as the Saints won with consistent base hits and stolen bases, strong defense and mighty control from the mound.
Next, the softball Saints face off against Duluth Denfeld 2 p.m. Wednesday in Forest Lake.
