Blaine Arts Council in collaboration with Blaine’s Park and Recreation Department is hosting its first Blaine Arts and Music Fair and you’re invited.
About 10 members will display their artwork June 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. in Town Square Park, next to Blaine City Hall. The event is free.
But this is a fun fair as well. Two musical groups will perform, starting with CODA, a saxophone/keyboard duo with their cool sounds; followed by 33 Degrees North, which will play steel drum and island favorites.
An arts table with activities will be offered for the kids.
“We have so many talented artists,” said Tom Godfrey, park and rec program supervisor. “Great music and great art will be represented that day.”
Expect to see glass-blown artwork, collages, mixed media, water color paintings, glass jewelry and more. The artwork will be available for sale.
Refreshments will be served.
“I just want people to know that there is an arts council,” said arts council member Mary Jo Truchon. “These are largely local community artists.”
The 20-some members arts council, in collaboration with the city’s park and recreation department, meets Tuesdays from 2 to 5 p.m. at Blaine City Hall. One need not be a Blaine resident to join. Membership is free.
The council organizes Blaine City Hall’s art exhibit monthly. Three times a year, it hosts exhibits featuring its own members.
In March, the council hosts a teen arts show and children arts activities day.
“It’s such an opportunity for people to meet other artists,” Truchon said. “We’re friendly. We’re helpful to each other.”
Truchon invites the community to Blaine’s newest Art and Music Fair event. Bring the kids, bring a lawn chair or blanket, pack a lunch and dine outside. In case of rain, the fair will be moved inside to city hall.
“And if this is successful, there will be an art fair again next summer,” Truchon said.
