Spring Lake Park High School celebrated commencement exercises June 1 as 333 seniors filed across the stage at Panther Stadium to collect their diplomas.
In a wave of blue graduation gowns, students marched down the track and onto the field to “Pomp and Circumstance” played by the school’s band.
The Minnesota National Guard presented the colors and the choir sang “Go the Distance”.
Principal Jane Stevenson welcomed an audience of family and friends, who packed the stadium’s bleachers.
Said Superintendent Jeff Ronneberg in a speech: “It’s the small choices you make each day that make a difference.” He further asked students to leave a legacy, “to continue to serve your community and leave the world a better place,” he said.
Henry Donato, Sana Siddiqui and David Walker were student speakers.
Julia Corneil-Smith honored the class with her words.
“This is your journey, but not your final destination,” she said.
After Stevenson’s closing remarks, following a time-honored tradition, the 2012 SLP graduates tossed their mortarboards into the air.
Afterwards, family and friends gathered for photos and congratulations on the stadium field.
