Milfred Banwart

Funeral service for Milfred John Banwart, 88, Andover, took place June 6 at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka. Rev. Peter Nycklemoe officiated.

Banwart died June 1 at Mercy Hospital. He was born May 15, 1924 in West Bend, Iowa, to Matthew W. and Mary (Metzger) Banwart and was a retired line superintendent for Anoka Electric Cooperative after 35 years. He was a member of the Anoka American Legion and a volunteer driver for the Veterans Administration.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille; children, Diane Hanke, Dennis (Sherry), Joyce (Ernest) Samuelson and Richard; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Holms, Matilda Lindberg and Marcella Russeff; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin and Merle.

Pallbearers were Michael Theisen, Steven Kujawa, Ryan and Ross Banwart and Jeremy LaQue.

Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, Andover.

 

John (Jack) Baumgart

Memorial service for Jack Baumgart, 69, Oak Grove, will take place today (Friday, June 8), 11 a.m., at Anoka United Methodist Church.

Baumgart died May 26 from Alzheimer’s. He was born Jan. 4, 1943 in Minneapolis to Lester and Lillian (Slack) Baumgart.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children, Lori and Lee; grandchildren, Kayla, Austin and Reece Johnson, Paige Baumgart; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Lee Ora Mielke and Susan Baumgart; sister-in-law, Ginger; nephews, Shelley and Loren (Jamie) Baumgart; and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Kelly.

Arrangements are by Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

 

Catherine Benson

Funeral service for Catherine Elaine Benson, 91, Spring Lake Park, took place June 1 at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Ted) Benson, Connie (Doug) Hopkins and Sandra (Jack) Baldwin; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Scott; best friend, Ann Ehrreich; niece, Joyce Luth; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; daughter, Patricia Lehmann; and granddaughter, Heather Prazma.

Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

 

Arlene Carlson

Funeral service for Arlene Virginia Carlson, 75, Coon Rapids, took place May 31 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Mike Van Sloun officiated.

Carlson died May 26 at Mercy Hospital. She was born July 23, 1936 in St. Cloud to Mark Francis and Katherine Regina (Mastey) Meier.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Rich and his sons Dustin and Dalton, Cathy (Jim) Smiley and their daughter Brianna, Tom (Wendy), Tim (Cynthia) and his daughters Kelsie, Corbin and McKenzie, Kelly (Ric) Riebe and their daughters, Sydney and Samantha, Kristy (Kraig) Stumo and their children Konner and Kayla; sisters, Ethel Larson and Arliss Meier; brother, Duane Meier; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine and Mark Meier; sister, Delores; and brothers, Robert, Harrison and Mark Jr.

Francisca DeLaCruz-Lopez

Funeral service for Francisca DeLaCruz-Lopez, 62, Coon Rapids, formerly of Minneapolis, took place June 4 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Fernando Ortega officiated.

DeLaCruz-Lopez died May 30. She was born Jan. 29, 1950 in Jiquipilco, Mexico, to Pablo and Gabina (Lopez) DeLaCruz.

She is survived by her children, Gerardo (Maria), Sandra (Erik), Leonel and Manuel (Anna); six grandchildren; siblings, Alberto, Estela, Aurelia, Claudia, Veronica, Juana, Refugio, Rosa and Consuelo; and nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

 

Violet Frye

Funeral service for Violet Elaine Frye, 85, Anoka, took place June 5 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. David Hulme officiated.

Frye died May 26 at Twin Rivers Care Center, Anoka. She was born Nov. 1, 1926 in Faribault to Theodore and Myrtle (Lunde) Howard and was a retired assembler at Honeywell in Minneapolis after 38 years.

She is survived by her close friends, Dorothy Wolleat and family, Barb Hoppe and family, Nancy and Jeff Vetruba and family, Kim and Jeff McEwen and family; and many other friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Ann Frye.

Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

 

Sue Galvin

Prayer service for Sue Galvin (nee Lusk), 70, Coon Rapids, formerly of Morgan Park, Duluth, took place June 3 at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

Galvin died May 31.

She is survived by her husband, Denny; children, Shawn (Caylani), Tina, Mickey (Denise); grandchildren, Haley, Bailey, Luke, Abbey and Joshua; sisters, Shari (Denny) Mortorelli; Shelley (Dennis) Young; brother, Steve (Kathy) Lusk; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Allen Lusk.

Donald Layton

Funeral service for Donald George Layton, 88, Coon Rapids, took place June 7 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Mike Van Sloun officiated.

Layton died June 2. He was born May 27, 1924 in Jamestown, N.D., to Clayton and Helen Mary (Brown) Layton. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II was a retired teacher/coach at Melrose High School where he spent 32 years.

He is survived by his daughters, Jeanne (DuWayne) Mattson, Joan (Randy) Bowsher, Ann Layton (Kel Kobernick) and Elizabeth (Joel) Peterson; grandchildren, Matt (Camille) Mattson, Mitch (Jess) Mattson, Nick Bowsher (Leah Steinie), Mike (Paige) Bowsher, Katie Genaciek (Erin Austin), Jack Genadek, Stephanie Peterson (Chris Hoermann) and Tom Peterson; great-grandson, Max Mattson; and companion, Dorothy Talbot.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Germaine; parents, Helen and Emil Stumm; and siblings, Bob and Patricia.

Interment was private at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

 

Josephine MacGlover

Funeral service for Josephine T. MacGlover, 98, Ham Lake, took place June 3 at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel. Rev. James David Hahn officiated.

MacGlover died May 30 at Anoka Care Center. She was born April 19, 1914 in Minneapolis to Joseph and Caroline Kowalczyk. She and her late husband Richard farmed in Anoka County for many years.

She is survived by her sons, Don (Dellis) MacGlover of Ham Lake, Rick MacGlover (Linda Benson) of Ham Lake; daughters, Jean Toth (Clem Brutger) of Foreston, JoAnne Berning Morrison (Bill Morrison) of Zimmerman; sisters, Laone Hammer of Burnsville, Julie (Dale) Bengston of Congress, Ariz.; brothers, Frank Kowalczyk of Seattle, Wash., Ted Kowalczyk of New Hope; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; son Gerald; brother, Joe Kowalczyk; and sister, Helen Frank.

Grandchildren serving as pallbearers were Lori Godin, Ron, Randy and Nicholas Berning, Vicki MacGlover-Kramer, Robert and Steven MacGlover, Angela Drasko and Shelly Marsala.

Interment was at Constance Free Church Cemetery. Arrangements were by Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel.

 

Alice Mechtel

Funeral service for Alice C. Mechtel, 87, Coon Rapids, took place June 1 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids.

Mechtel died May 27.

She is survived by her children, Jeannie O’Connell, Joni (Larry) Warke, Shari (David) Jansen, Mary (Brad) Baird, Mark Mechtel, Danny Mechtel, Annette (David) Johnson, Marty (Cookie) Mechtel; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy; grandson, Chad; and brothers and sisters.

Interment was at Epiphany Cemetery, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

 

David Miller

Memorial service for David A. Miller, 69, Minneapolis, took place June 4 at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

Miller died May 28.

He is survived by his daughters, Becky and Pam; grandchildren, Mikhal, Geoffrey, Mariah and Dallas; and brothers and a sister.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; and parents.

Evelyn Oxley

Funeral service for Evelyn M. Oxley, 83, Coon Rapids, took place June 5 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids.

She is survived by her husband, Harry; children, Greg (Patricia), Michael (Glenna), Jordyn (Tim) Andrajack, Richard (Sherri) and Mary (Kurt) Pouliot; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings.

Interment was at Epiphany Cemetery, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

 

William Swanson

Memorial service for William Everett “Swany” Swanson, 69, Blaine, took place May 16 at Kozlak-Radulovich Blaine Chapel.

Swanson died May 11 following a battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born April 22, 1943. A teacher and coach for 32 years, he taught physical education and outdoor education at Mounds View High School and judged girls’ gymnastics for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Jan; sister, Margaret (Charles) Bujold; daughter, Michelle (Peter) Leatherman; son, Mark (Jena Lyden) Swanson; grandchildren, Justin, Navy and Anna; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Kathryn Swanson.

Arrangements were by Kozlak-Radulovich Blaine Chapel.

 

Kathy Steinworth

Funeral service for Kathy Jean (Guiser) Steinworth, 64, Blaine, took place May 30 at Glen Cary Lutheran Church, Ham Lake.

Steinworth was a longtime employee of the St. Francis School District.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry; sisters, Sharon and Barbara Guiser.

Interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Baldwin, Wis. Arrangements were by Kozlak-Radulovich Blaine Chapel.

 

Betty Wright

Funeral service for Betty Mae Wright, 87, Brooklyn Center and Shoreview, took place May 31 at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

Wright was born May 3, 1925 in Kasota to Alvin and Esther Smith.

She is survived by her daughters, Diane Johnson of Ramsey, Jacqueline (Richard) Schmid of Ramsey, Sandra (Gary) Nordmark of Woodbury, Patricia (Dan) Baker of Champlin, Robin (Paul) FitzGerald of Anoka; sons, John of Brooklyn Center, David of Minneapolis, Richard (Victoria) of Elk River, Thomas of St. Paul and Daniel of Milaca; 25 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Wright; and sister, Gladys White.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.
