Main Street will close to all traffic between Crane and Avocet streets in Coon Rapids starting the week of June 11 for approximately three weeks.
Part of the Anoka County Main Street (County Road 14) design build project, the closure is necessary as crews construct the new Main Street in that area.
This portion of Main Street will re-open in early July.
Motorists should follow the posted detour routes:
• Eastbound Main Street, north on Hanson Boulevard to eastbound Bunker Lake Boulevard to southbound Central Avenue (Highway 65).
• Westbound Main Street/125th Avenue, north on Central Avenue (Highway 65) and then westbound Bunker Lake Boulevard to southbound Hanson Boulevard.
The Main Street design-build reconstruction project covers three and one half miles and includes an overpass at the railroad crossing between Avocet Street and Foley Boulevard.
The roadway will be expanded to four lanes, with a median down the middle, along with protected right and left turn lanes. Bike and pedestrian trails also will be constructed.
Segments of the roadway will be closed during different stages of construction. The section from Avocet to University Avenue remains closed. Completion is scheduled for summer 2012.
