Legacy Christian Academy boys’ and girls’ golf teams each claimed victory in Section 4A meets last week, the boys at Victory Links in Blaine and girls at Anoka’s Green Haven Golf Course.
With team trophies in hand, Legacy boys and girls will compete in Class 1A state tournament contests, staged June 11-14 at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker.
Returning to the state tournament for the first time since taking home the top trophy in 2008, Legacy boys’ golfers expect tough competition from the Section 1A Rushford-Peterson High School team, but look to its strong line-up, led by top golfer Andrew Peterson, to make a strong showing.
Winning the boys’ state championship back in 2008, Peterson was an eighth-grader and Tyler Champ was a senior. Champ is now back helping out as an assistant coach and Peterson, now a senior, leads the way.
For the girls, top golfer senior Rachel Gray is expected to lead the way in state competition.
