Petition asks Blaine council to again lease country club pool

Non-use of the Oak Park Country Club pool this season has prompted a petition bearing 488 signatures asking the city to look into the possibility of again leasing the facility.

The petition was presented at the May 18 Blaine Council meeting and received by the council members who explained that the city had, earlier this year, attempted to garner information regarding a lease but had received no cooperation from the owner, Vern Donnay Builders.

Four to share grand marshal honors

This year the position of Grand Marshal of the Tower Days Grande Parade will be shared by four individuals that have brought state-wide recognition to the community of Spring Lake Park.

The four are: Mike Omann, son of Ray and Joyce Omann; Paul Nielsen, son of Tom and Elsie Nielsen; Brett Briant, son of Ed and Diane Briant who have all brought recognition to the community when they advanced to and competed in the state wresting matches this year.

Thom, Arndt bring careers to an end at Roosevelt Junior High

For Ed Thom and Bill Arndt, what happens after they retire from Roosevelt Junior High  School is still unknown. It’s been more than 30 years since the two entered the teaching profession, experiencing much and enjoying it all.
