Three sign to play ball with the Wolves
St. Francis softball players Debra Evans and Kelsey Gale and Anoka’s Jordin Novak have signed letters of intent to play ball with the Northern State University (NSU) Wolves.
NSU head softball coach Kristi Villar earlier announced the signing of six student athletes, who recently inked their commitments to enroll in classes and join the Wolves softball program in Aberdeen, S.D., for the 2012-13 school year.
Joining Evans, Novak and Gale in signing are Haley Covais (Lennox, S.D.), Kalie Maiden (Rapid City, S.D.) and Macey Engel (Papillion, Neb.).
“These six student athletes come from competitive softball programs,” said Villar. “They bring a winning mentality and a real passion for the game to our program. With seven seniors graduating, these six will make an immediate impact and help fill some holes at important positions.”
Evans, a 5 foot, 8 inch pitcher, comes to the Wolves after a career at St. Francis which included a perfect game her junior year of high school. Evans was a two-time team captain while garnering All-Conference and All-Section in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Evans will graduate with honors after participating in National Honor Society, Link, weight training and yearbook during her high school career.
Gale, a 5 foot, 5 inch utility player, comes to the Wolves after completing four years as a starter for St. Francis High School. Gale was a two-time team captain while earning All-Conference and All-Section honors and being named the best defensive player in 2011. Gale also competed in basketball where she was named team captain, team MVP her senior year and earned top defensive honors both her junior and senior seasons. Graduating with honors, Gale was also involved in National Honor Society, Link and Youth Teaching Youth.
Novak, a 5 foot, 6 inch infielder, joins the Wolves after three section runner-up finishes and a two-time all-section selection. Novak played club softball with the Minnesota Blizzard which won two Minnesota state championships. A 2012 graduate of Anoka High School, Novak was also involved in student council, STAR and DECA.
The girls will join the Wolves for fall workouts leading up to the 2013 season.
