Fire department budget increase approved for expansion, equipment

The Blaine City Council authorized increases in the Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View Fire Department budget to provide for an expansion of the protection provided.

The action was in accord with a recommendation from Fire Chief Ron Fagerstrom who explained that the Insurance Services Office felt a station located on the east side of the city and purchase of another pumper to replace a 1949 model were essential.

Snags in ice arena agreement

Approval of agreements for the North Suburban Civic Center and Ice Arena ran into some snags when the documents were brought before Blaine City Council last week.

City Attorney Tom Sweeney explained to the council that some of the stipulations in the Joint Powers Agreement drawn up by the county placed the city in an untenable position.

Church gets permit from Blaine council

The first thing Pastor Tim Roehl read when he moved to the area 18 months ago was that the former Blaine Elementary School building would be up for sale. Since then, he’s been praying that the building would become available for his church.

For Roehl, the pastor of ChristLife Evangelical Church, his prayers were answered when the Blaine City Council approved a conditional use permit allowing the church to lease space with the Calvin Christian School, the new owners of the former elementary school.
