Keeping with tradition, city of Anoka staff will be serving up some sweet treats on the Fourth of July.
The city will hold its annual ice cream social at George Green Park. It starts at noon where staff will be serving up root beer floats until supplies run out. Music at the park with be provided by the North Suburban Concert Band.
Fireworks will be held during the evening of July 3 at dusk. They will be shot off at the Anoka High School.
Those who attend can enjoy full concessions at two locations – the grounds of Sterling Trophy on Seventh Avenue and at the high school.
The concessions are a fund-raising effort by the newly formed, non profit, Castle Field Association.
According to CFA President Jay Rumpca, the profits from the concessions will be used by to offset maintenance costs for the teams that will play on the new Castle Field, currently under construction at the high school.
It is the association’s first fund-raising effort and it hopes to make it an annual event, said Rumpca. CFA was formed to manage and maintain Castle Field once it goes into operation next year.
Concessions will be available starting in the late afternoon.
