Spring Lake Park District 16 School Board has approved a total price transportation contract for nearly $2.1 million that will cover the district’s transportation needs for the next two school years.
The board last month unanimously approved the contract renewing the services of Lorenz Bus Services, Inc., of Blaine for the district’s regular bus service and Voigt’s Bus Service of Fridley for special education bus service for the 2012-13 and 2012-14 school years.
“We have been very pleased with the service,” Amy Schultz, District 16’s director of business services, said in an e-mail to the Life. “When the district has raised concerns, we feel the vendors are very responsive in working with us to improve.”
The district did not renew its contract with A and M Bussing Service, a company the district used to transport students on field trips. Schultz said the district was not happy with its service.
Both Voigt’s and Lorenz will pick up the service for the field trips, Schultz said.
The board approved the 2010-11 and 2011-12 transportation contract for a total of $2 million. The new contract includes a 2.5 percent increase for the 2012-13 school year, Schultz told the Life.
For transportation contracts, the district negotiates a total contract price.
“We negotiate a per bus price for a certain level of time each bus is on the road,” she said in an e-mail to the Life.
More than 4,100 District 16 students ride the bus, according to Schultz.
District 16 serves students in Spring Lake Park and parts of Blaine and Fridley.
