Fourth of July festivities abound

The Anoka County area offers a variety of ways to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday. Some of the events include:

Anoka

Anoka’s annual fireworks display is July 3 at dusk (approximately 10 p.m.).

Anoka’s ice cream social is July 4 at George Green Park, 1498 Sixth Ave. S. The North Suburban Concert Band will perform from noon to 3 p.m. Root beer floats will be served at noon until gone.

Blaine

Fourth of July holiday events include an 8:30 a.m. U.S. flag-raising ceremony at Blaine City Hall, 10801 Town Square Drive N.E., followed by The Lakes 8K Run and 4K Walk For the House scheduled at Lakeside Commons Park, 3020 Lakes Parkway N.E.

Registration forms, driving directions and results will be posted at www.blaineparks.com under special events. All race proceeds go to Alexandra House.

The annual fireworks spectacular is scheduled for July 4 at 10 p.m. immediately following the NSC Minnesota Stars soccer match at the National Sports Center (NSC).

Coon Rapids

All events are held at Sand Creek Park.

June 30: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Crafts at the Creek; noon, midway, bingo and pull tabs open; noon to 5 p.m., unlimited ride wristbands $20, regular admission after 5 p.m.; 6 to 11 p.m., car show; 7 to 9 p.m., skate jam; 7 p.m., TC Cats band concert.

July 1: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Crafts at the Creek; noon, midway, bingo and pull tabs open; noon to 5 p.m., unlimited ride wristbands, regular admission after 5 p.m.; 7 p.m., Kill a Brew band concert.

July 2: 4 p.m., midway opens; 4 to 10 p.m., unlimited ride wristbands $20; 5 p.m., bingo and pull tabs; 6 p.m., parade; 7 p.m., Splatter Sisters band concert.

July 3: 4 p.m., midway opens; 4 to 10 p.m., unlimited ride wristbands $20; 5 p.m., bingo and pull tabs; 7 p.m., Zed Leppelin band concert.

July 4: 9:30 a.m., team check-in for bean bag tournament; noon, midway, bingo and pull tabs open; noon to 5 p.m., unlimited ride wristbands $20, regular admission after 5 p.m.; 6 to 10 p.m., DJ K-FULT Productions; 10 p.m. fireworks.

Ham Lake

The Don Hansen VFW Post hosts an annual Fourth of July celebration and fireworks at Ham Lake Lions Park.

Festivities begin at 3 p.m. Bingo will kick off around 4 p.m. Fireworks are at dusk.

The VFW Men’s Auxiliary will be cooking pork chops, burgers and hot dogs and there will also be beverages.

Ham Lake Lions Park is located on the south side of 157th Avenue, just west of Central Avenue.
