Coon Rapids commission receives another concert donation

The Coon Rapids Arts Commission has received another donation for its 2012 free outdoor summer concert series.

The Coon Rapids Community Strength Foundation has contributed $6,950 to the Thursday Nites LIVE at the dam program.

This is the third donation the commission has received for this year’s nine-concert series in the performance pavilion at the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park.

The Shortstop Bar & Grill, Coon Rapids, has donated $7,500, while the July 12 Minnesota Sinfonia concert is being sponsored by the Pentair Foundation.

The Community Strength Foundation, which was formed last year, was the idea of Mayor Tim Howe.

It comprises representatives of community/civic groups under one umbrella as well as representatives of the city.

The foundation’s funds don’t come from the taxpayers. The Twin Cities Gateway Visitors Bureau is one source, while 90 percent of the 5 percent the city gets from local charitable gambling license holders’ revenues also goes to the foundation.
