ARCC foundation golf tournament

The 21st annual Anoka-Ramsey Community College Coon Rapids Campus Foundation golf tournament is Tuesday, July 10 at The Refuge Golf Club in Oak Grove.

The tournament, sponsored by the college’s Coon Rapids Campus Foundation with funding from McGough Construction, Connexus Energy, Ace Solid Waste and Counsel Wealth Management, raises funds for the foundation’s scholarship program.

The event begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration for carts, hole assignments and opportunities to view some of the tournament prizes and raffle items.

The shotgun start at 1 p.m. will launch teams on to 18 holes of golf in a best-ball scramble format.

Players can register individually for $125 and be placed into a foursome, or they can create their own foursome for $500.

The registration fee includes the course fee, cart and dinner.

Businesses have the chance to support the effort through sponsorships of holes and players and prize donations.

Along with helping students succeed, participants receive an afternoon of golf, dinner and chances to win one of five hole-in-one prizes worth $10,000 or more, including a 12,000-watt generator package sponsored by Interstate Power Systems and a Polaris RZR Ranger ATV sponsored by Northway Sports.

Prizes will be awarded at the walleye and sirloin dinner, which begins at 6 p.m. Additional dinner guests can register for $25 per person.

According to event organizer and college Stewardship Director Michael Wall, participation at any level will help a worthy cause that ultimately supports the community.

“The scholarships, made possible by this tournament, are an educational lifeline for every kind of student, from the young adult working multiple part-time jobs to the working parent to the student who is the first in their family to ever attend college,” Wall said.

“In the end each of them, with their education, contributes to every aspect of our community.”

Last year, the Coon Rapids Campus Foundation awarded 136 scholarships, totaling more than $160,000.
