The Coon Rapids-Blaine Meals on Wheels will present a fund-raiser garden tour Sunday, July 29, 1 to 5 p.m., at 10912 and 10922 Mississippi Blvd., Coon Rapids.
The park-like gardens at the Robidoux and Anderson homes host many visits each year.
Twin sisters Janet and Janice Robidoux and their friend and neighbor, Everett Anderson, maintain their two properties like one.
The three acres encompass a variety of formal, wildflower and water gardens.
Woodchip paths take visitors from prairie/butterfly gardens adjoining Mississippi Boulevard to a 30- by 70-foot boulder-edged pond shared with the neighbor to the north of the Robidoux sisters. Water plants adorn the pond edges.
After crossing a small bridge, visitors pass by terraced flowerbeds filled with hundreds of annuals, perennials and shrubs.
A rock garden with a small waterfall and stream separates the Anderson and Robidoux homes.
“Behind the homes, the Mississippi River provides the background for a place to relax and have some refreshments,” said Janet Robidoux, who is president of the Coon Rapids-Blaine Meals on Wheels program.
The Robidoux twins’ gardens have been featured in the Home and Garden section of the Minneapolis Star Tribune and on the “Rebecca’s Garden” TV show.
Advanced tickets are $10 for garden tour admission. Children under 12 will be admitted free. Tickets at the gate on the day of the event are $15.
