Celebrate local history at Anoka’s Riverfest

The Anoka County Historical Society will offer free admission to its galleries in the Anoka County History Center during Anoka’s Riverfest celebration Saturday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Currently on exhibition are Safe for Democracy: A Closer Look Anoka County in World War I; Clothing the County: Fashion for Every Occasion; In Memoriam; and Tell Me a Story.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. visitors will also get the chance to dress up in historical costumes and have their portrait taken in the Philolectian Room. For a suggested donation of $5, a sepia toned image will be e-mailed to them to remember their day at Riverfest.

Tickets to the July 15 Anoka Heritage Home and Garden Tour will be available at the History Center at a booth at the intersection of Second Avenue and Jackson Street. The tour features open house tours of historic homes and garden in Anoka. This year’s tour features the Whiskey Flats and Slab Town neighborhoods. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 on the day of the tour.
