Man accused of assaulting another in Blaine charged

A man faces a felony second-degree assault charge in Anoka County District Court for an incident in Blaine the evening of June 30.

John Adam Byrne, 33, was arraigned in court on the charge July 3 when bail was set at $20,000 and his next court appearance for July 26. A no contact order was also issued.

Blaine Police Department responded to a residence on President Drive June 30 where they found a man, identified as Byrne, being held down by others in the driveway, according to the complaint.

One of the man alleged that when Byrne got into an argument with a woman at the home and another woman was shoved when she tried to help, he intervened.

At that point, Byrne allegedly grabbed some hedging shears and began swinging them at the man before he was able to grab Byrne by the arm and with the help of others, take him to the ground and hold him there until police arrived.
