Outdoor Life Center approved at Jefferson

The District 11 School Board has approved the expenditure of $1,327 for the improvement of the Jefferson Elementary school grounds. Ken Kunshier, principal at Jefferson Elementary school, appeared before the board June 25 to request that money be provided for the development of an Outdoor Life Center.

He explained that the Jefferson Elementary school PTA, City of Blaine, and Al Fischer, soils conservationist, have prepared a design for developing the outdoor life center to be located behind the school.

SLP to reconsider arena funding request

Spring Lake Park City Councilmembers said Tuesday that they will reconsider their earlier decision not to designate city funds to the new North Suburban Civic Center and ice arena currently under construction in Blaine.

Mayor Don Masterson told District 16 Youth Hockey Association officials the city will take another look at committing city funds to the project if money can be found and if the city’s attorney approves the legality of the donation.

At Park High School: Copple named the new varsity baseball coach

When the school year ended last month at Spring Lake Park, there were two openings on the coaching staff. As of this week, one new head coach has been appointed and the other position is expected to be filled shortly.

Clayton Copple, a long-time assistant football coach with the Park program, was named the new head baseball coach. He replaces veteran coach Jon Marsolais who resigned at the end of the 1992 spring season.
