Coon Rapids man shows leadership at national conference

Michael Fliger, Coon Rapids, was awarded a skill point certificate in extemporaneous speaking at the SkillUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Mo.

Fliger is a student at Hennepin Technical College, Brooklyn Park.

Student competed in 94 hands-on occupations and leadership contests, including robotics, criminal justice, aviation maintenance and public speaking.

All contests were designed, run and judged using industry standards.

The SkillsUSA championships are for high school and college-level students who are members of SkillsUSA.

The skill point certificate that Fliger won is awarded in 86 occupational and leadership areas to students who achieve a high score defined by industry.

“Over 5,900 students from every state in the nation came to compete in the SkillsUSA championships,” said SkillsUSA Executive Director Tim Lawrence. “These students prove that career and technical education expands opportunities.”
