Mary Spohn Schultz Pierskall, Age 84, formerly of Coon Rapids. Passed away peacefully July 23, 2012 surrounded by her family at First Light Hospital of Mora.
Mary Catherine was born May 7, 1928 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents James and Myrtle Spohn. She grew up on the family farm in Coon Rapids. Mary was a 1946 graduate of Anoka High School. She married Benedict Schultz Jr. (Pokey or Benny) on May 29, 1948 and had three children: Lynnette, Kathy and Gary.
Mary and Pokey shared their love for traveling by taking the family on yearly vacations. The family also enjoyed many weekend trips up to the cabin on Lake Ada. Mary was quite the fisherwoman!
Mary lost her husband Pokey on November 16, 1985 of complications due to his leukemia. She married her second husband, Alfred Pierskalla on October 5, 1990. Alfred and Mary were active members of the Knights of Columbus organization and Church of St. Timothy’s Carnival Committee. They enjoyed 12 years of marriage before Alfred’s passing. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Disease prevented her from living independently, so she was cared for by her family until February of 2012 . Then she became a resident of Signe and Olivia’s, a small assisted living residence in Ogilvie. Minnesota.
Mary worked for the Bureau of Engraving over 30 years. She also worked as a waitress at Anoka Steakhouse and Growtown Tavern, was a child care giver, and a seamstress for the Kickerknick Company.
Mary enjoyed music, fishing, playing games, and frequent trips to the Dairy Queen. She loved her husbands, children and grandchildren so much. Mary will be dearly missed by all who knew her!
Preceded in death by parents; sister, Phyllis; brother, Everett; husbands, Benedict Schultz Jr. “Pokey” and Alfred Pierskalla.
Survived by loving children, Lynnette (James) Weiss, Kathy (Dan) Belsheim and Gary (Donna) Schultz; grandchildren, Randy Weiss, Dianna (Mark) Sholtz, Danny (Teri) Belsheim, Jacob (Susie) Schultz, Curtis (Melissa) Schultz, Lucas (Andrea) Schultz, Scott Scanlon, Tanya (Rob) Wiggins; 16 great grandchildren; siblings, Jane (Don) Purkat, Leonard (Lois) Spohn and Denny (Judy) Spohn; brother in law, Dick (Jinny) Schultz; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held Friday 7/27 at Church of the Epiphany with interment at Epiphany Cemetery. Arrangements by Gearhart Funeral Home.
